Titus Androncius
Unrealized Sound Design Production. 2017
Photos are for inspiration and were taken from the production at The Old Globe.

Act 5, Scene 3

In my mind the world of the play is set inside of an insane asylum, but draws influence from traditional Shakespearean music and references. However, the entire production and everything we see is from the mind of Titus himself.

For the final scene, I imagine we hear the asylum buzzer letting the culprits that haunted Titus into the room. We then hear the inner workings of his mind as we can feel the insanity breaching from him. With the first stab we enter a giant fight scene fueled by Shakespearean drums and the voices in Titus's head.

Act 2, Scene 3

The infamous scene in which during the hunt, Tamora's sons Chiron and Demetrius stab and murder Bassianus before dragging Lavinia offstage to be raped and dismantled.

We hear the lush sound of the forest before the events. Then as things start to escalate the forest begins morph and change in pitch as drums are introduced to invoke tension and foreshadow. As Bassianus is stabbed a percussive hit of the drum accompanies starting a motif throughout the show.

Opening Sequence

Sticking with my approach to the show being in an asylum. For the opening of the show I imagined for Titus and the crew's introduction, we have several sounds of the building letting various prisoners into the room. We also hear the florescent lights and various technology of the space begin to build in tension inside of Titus's mind. As it all comes to a climax, a breaker switch is flipped taking us directly into the first scene.
