About The Play

Afterlove, explores life, loss, and love in the tradition of great romantic ghost stories. A troubled young doctor, struggling with the loss of a patient, finds unexpected tenderness when he's visited by an enchanting female ghost.

Resurrection

In the climax of our show, our hero is believed to be dead, but is finally reunited with his long-lost lover in a purgatory setting. After a brief relief of tension, it is time for her to move on to the after live. An ethereal force tucks and pulls as they struggle to stay together. Finally, our hero is resurrected back into reality as she moves on.

A Somber Beginning

As we open the show straight away we are hearing Henry's inner state of mind with a somber piece of music. As he gazes out the window we hear the soft wind breeze while the seance below roars with laughter and enjoys the party without their host.

Flute Noodling

Several instances in the show call for Henry to play comedic music on the flute. However, our actor did not have the ability to play, and with only a week to rehearse and tech the task fell to me. With the assistance of a flute player from the Chautauqua Symphony I recorded the necessary music. With a hidden speaker hidden behind the couch and some clever physical gestures from the actor, no one knew the difference.
